Catedra Rois: Towards a Design Pedagogy for the Americas

Juan Rois

Juan Manuel Rois is Professor Catedrático at Universidad Nacional de Rosario, Argentina and currently visiting professor at the School of Architecture Art and Design of Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico. Rois has previously taught at Michigan (2004-2007) and UIC (2007-2010).  

Rois develops his professional practice in the city of Rosario, having worked previously at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (Chicago) and collaborated in the offices of Xavier Vendrell (Chicago) and with Marcelo Villafañe (Rosario). His work has won awards in several competitions, the main ones being the second prize in the international ideas competition for the Parque de la Cabecera Puente Rosario-Victoria and the third prize in the competition for the Costanera San Fernando.

His work has been published widely and he is internationally recognized for his design pedagogy at Catedra Rois where he fuses influences from the Rosario school with Great Lakes (Michigan and UIC) traditions. Juan Rois is no doubt a leader in design pedagogy for the Americas.

Goldsmith Talks is an open-format series of presentations organized by UTSOA faculty, staff, and students. the series aims to encourage and promote presentations that are outside of the scope of the main lecture series. Examples are: invited seminar presentations, book talks, lectures by designers and scholars who may be in Austin for another engagement, round-table discussions, film screenings, product demonstrations, or any other activity related to research, scholarship, and teaching activities and at the school. The format provides a platform for encouraging the dissemination of work by visitors and members of our community. The goal is to raise awareness, increase access, and better integrate such events within the public life of the school.
