LATI7UDES is 2-day conference in Santiago de Chile co-organized by the School of Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin, USA (UTSOA) and the School of Architecture at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC).

The seventh symposium of the series, LATI7UDES will again bring together a diverse group of innovative architects, this time slightly shifting the focus from a solely project related presentation to a thematically focused discussion. This conference will be held, for the second time outside of the UTSoA in Austin, at the School of Architecture at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in Santiago, Chile.

Past and present: time and the project in the Americas
The notions of “project” and “impact” conflate in the vision of many environmental protection agencies. This occurs at the same time when conservation of buildings, areas, and even whole landscapes gain increased attention; hence the sacralization of the old consolidates hand by hand with the erasure of human imprints.

Past and present: time and the project in the Americas aims at displaying a full range of projects that deal with these dilemmas. Be it at the scale of building, urban design, or landscape, be it related to a recent or a remote past, projects embody concrete attitudes to history, memory, and the past. By the same token they cannot but represent the present. The issue is how the past regains a status in the present through the action of the architect, and how the architect forges that particular and unique synthesis of times in a single project.
