In just five years since Travis Count voters helped launch the establishment of a new medical school at UT Austin, over 1 million square feet of LEED Gold certified construction has been completed, along with the expansion of a world-class district energy system, and the restoration of a key section of Waller Creek.
Jim Walker was appointed the Director of Sustainability for the University of Texas at Austin in April, 2009. He works closely with the President's Sustainability Steering Committee and meets frequently with on- and off-campus stakeholders to promote existing sustainability efforts and identify new opportunities for collaboration.
In 1998, Jim completed a Masters in Community and Regional Planning from the University of Texas at Austin and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). In 2009 he was recognized with an Honorable Mention by the alumni of the MSCRP program for his body of work since achieving the degree. In 2011, the AIA Austin Chapter presented him the Edwin Waller Award for Public Architecture; also in 2011, the Texas Society of Architects granted him Honorary Membership.
