The Landscape Architecture Program at the University of Texas as Austin offers the following degree programs:

Master of Landscape Architecture
First Professional Degree

The Master of Landscape Architecture, First Professional Degree, is an accelerated graduate program designed to prepare students for advanced work in the practice of landscape architecture. Upon matriculation candidates must complete a structured core sequence of design, visual communication, history/theory and technology in landscape architecture. After successful completion of the core sequence, students are qualified to commence advanced study in the discipline.

Requirements for Award of Degree

A candidate will be recommended for the Master of Landscape Architecture as a professional degree upon satisfactory completion of 79 credits or more in the following program of study. First professional degree candidates must demonstrate a certain proficiency in design and communication skills through a portfolio review conducted by the faculty before entering the advanced design studio sequence. Candidates who qualify are generally granted advanced standing of up to one or two terms and are subject to review by the admissions committee. The program of study is prescribed on the basis of the student's previous college work as shown in transcripts, portfolio, statement of intent, and references. Qualified candidates may be able to waive degree requirements by demonstrating equivalent study in any of the required course areas.

Post-Professional Degree

The Master of Landscape Architecture, Post-Professional Degree, is a graduate program designed to provide individuals who have completed an undergraduate professional landscape architecture degree or its equivalent an opportunity to engage in advanced scholarship and professional development. The program seeks applicants who demonstrate academic and professional achievement and the potential for professional leadership. The program is designed to facilitate a concentrated examination of advanced topics in relation to the practice of landscape architecture. Topics can vary but are not exclusive to Sustainable Design, Cultural and Historic Landscapes, and issues of Urbanism and Landscape Architecture.

Requirements for Award of Degree

A candidate will be recommended for the Master of Landscape Architecture as a post-professional degree upon satisfactory completion of 48 units in the following schedule of courses.
