Design; Construction, with particular interest in the building trades and embodied energy issues; Representation

In teaching, research and practice, Cisco Gomes believes that architecture must engage the situational circumstances of its physical and societal environment to be meaningful. The materials and techniques of construction, the circumstances of site, and the influence of design representation profoundly shape architectural production.

Cisco has maintained an award-winning practice, Gomes+Staub Architects, for over a decade [www.gomes-staub.com]. The work of Gomes+Staub has been published nationally and internationally, most recently in 1000x Architecture of the Americas (Verlaghaus Braun, 2008), and has been presented in a number of lectures and exhibitions, including at the Duke University Museum of Art and the Audi International exhibition in Hanover, Germany.

Cisco has actively practiced as a registered architect since 1996 and is licensed in the states of Texas, North Carolina and Virginia. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects, a LEED accredited professional, a CSI Certified Construction Specifier, and a licensed commercial building contractor in the State of North Carolina. He has served as a juror for numerous design award programs at the regional, state, and local levels.

In 2009, Cisco was awarded the School of Architecture Outstanding Studio Teacher Award.
