Centerline 6: buildingstudio—Building

MAY 2012

The Centerline book series is devoted to exploring the built environment through a focus on singular issues pursued in-depth. The work shown in Centerline 6: buildingstudio-BUILDING presents some of the recent buildings from Coleman Coker's office, buildingstudio, paired with his thoughts on building. Here, three buildings, as well as the exhibition design that presented them to the School of Architecture at The University of Texas at Austin, are shown through a wealth of photographs and drawings.

With the formation of buildingstudio, Coker sought to blur the boundaries between architecture, art, craft, and thinking—rather than separate disciplines, each is essential to the larger realm of building. buildingstudio's work explores built presence grounded in the experience of the real world, building as realized through a process of critical reflection with an emphasis on the phenomenological quality of being in the world through the things we make.
